consultation & treatment process

Client consultation meetings are arranged by appointment at our lab in Museum London. The initial consultation is free of charge. While examining the artwork we can give a general idea of the problems presented and a rough cost estimate. If, at this stage, the client would like to proceed, a written condition report and treatment proposal with a firm cost estimate is prepared, based on a more in-depth examination and testing of the work. There is a charge of $150 per work for the preparation of this report; the fee is waived if the client agrees to go ahead with the proposed treatment.

We prefer to examine works in person before giving a condition assessment or treatment proposal. We can respond to queries sent by email with images, but cannot give a thorough assessment from pictures alone. We are happy to make on-site assessments for artworks that are difficult to transport; a fee will be charged for time and travel.

Upon completion of the conservation treatment, the client will be provided with a written treatment report and full set of photodocumentation, in accordance with the code of ethics and practice of the Canadian Association of Professional Conservators (CAPC).

While ACS Inc. carries insurance for works of art in its care, it remains the responsibility of the client to ensure that adequate insurance coverage is provided while the work is undergoing conservation treatment.

Completion time is usually six to eight weeks, depending on our schedule.
